Liza Minnelli, the award-winning American performer, has landed in Sydney to kick off her first tour of Australia in 20 years.

Her series of concerts will be partly derived from her Broadway show. The performer is said to also sing some of her greatest hits.

Minnelli said at a press conference that every new performance must be better than the previous one.

Speaking at the Opera House yesterday, the 63-year-old singer said she still felt like she had a lot to prove, even if she’s been very successful.

Minnelli first visited Australia in the 60s with her husband at the time, Peter Allen.

She first toured Australia solo in 1981 and returned with Frank Sinatra and Sammy Davis Jr as part of The Ultimate Event tour in 1989.

But this Australian visit will offer Minnelli the first opportunity to perform at the celebrated Sydney Opera House, and she is visibly thrilled by the occasion.

Minnelli was born directly into a showbusiness family and developed an acclaimed musical and acting career. At the 1972 Oscar Awards, she won the title of best actress for her role in Cabaret and received her fourth Tony Award this year for her act Liza’s At The Palace.

Liza Minnelli In Concert is set for the Sydney Opera House this coming Friday night.
