Mob Cooperating SA Police Officer Jailed
A former police officer accused of corruption stemming from the transfer of confidential information on to a well known Adelaide based drug dealer has received a prison sentence of nearly three years.
On Thursday, Judge Rosemary Davey of the South Australian District Court said the enthusiasm expressed by Debra Lee Buckskin as she was passing confidential material to Chad Tassone was revolting.
Judge Davey described the behaviour of Buckskin as shameful in respect to the several police officers employed in the SA force and doing an honourable job, but also cautioned other individuals practicing this type of trade that they will at one point have to face serious consequences.
Buckskin admitted being guilty to the two counts of abuse of public office although not before the beginning of her trial and following a period of three years when she was suspended and on fully pay.
In 2006, Buckskin gave confidential information to Tassone in regards to a series of matters including one incident where he had been attacked by a member of a bike gang called the Rebels.
Tassone was a victim of car accident last year where he lost his life.
During sentencing, Judge Davey remarked that Buckskin had attempted to justify her crimes by explaining that she had received important information from Tassone in exchange for the help she provide him with.
She also claimed she had done the same as some of her other colleagues.
Buckskin received a prison sentence of two years and nine months combined with a 12-month non-parole period.
