Jaimee Grubbs, a cocktail waitress who is believed to have had a 31-month affair with golfing champion Tiger Woods has apologised to the golfer’s wife, Elin Nordegren, on US television.

Just a week ago, Woods had also apologised via a statement on his website for what he called his “transgressions” and “personal sins” as an American publication had revealed the truth about the intimate escapades between the athlete and Grubbs.

The waitress is considered to be the second woman identified as having maintained an alleged intimate relationship with the golfer, although he is rumoured to have had several other mistresses.

The emergence of the infidelity occurred within days of Woods’ car crash outside his Orlando home late in November where he hit a fire hydrant and a neighbour’s tree during an escape attempt from his furious wife.

Initially, Woods had refused to speak to local police authorities about the accident, fuelling speculations that it stemmed from a domestic dispute with Elin Nordegren over a reported involvement with the Manhattan night club hostess.

The revelations seemed to have opened the flood gates, as now at least 10 women have claimed to have had an affair with Woods during the last few years.

During her apology to Woods’ wife, Grubbs expressed huge remorse, saying that she had not wanted to hurt Elin Nordegren.

She also said that the word “love” meant a lot to her and that she couldn’t say she never loved Woods. She added that in the advent of a divorce between Woods and his wife, she had no idea what she would do.

It was reported that, at the time of his car accident, Woods was under the influence of alcohol and prescription medication.

Most of Woods sponsors have indicated that they wanted to remain with him, but all have pulled their ads until the situation calms down.

Woods is the first billionaire in golf. He is reported to earn $US110 million (AU$121 million) annually through a combination of endorsements and competition prize money.
